A US Capitol Police officer spotted a reportedly stolen sedan near E Street and New Jersey Avenue around 11 a.m., Thursday, March 2, and approached the vehicle.

Two people then ran from the car as they neared, with one being immediately apprehended by officers, investigators said. Officers then followed the second suspect into a nearby apartment building on E Street after he locked barricaded inside an apartment.

When officers searched the stolen vehicle, they located a gun and secured the area, according to officials.

Several hours after the incident, just before 6:30 p.m., the second suspect voluntarily walked out of the apartment and was taken into custody.

Charges are pending.
